What is Physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy is a healthcare profession that assesses, diagnoses and treats, a wide variety of conditions through physical treatment. Physiotherapists are work in partnership with their patients in assisting them to overcome movement disorders, which may have been present from birth, acquired through accident or injury, or are the result of ageing or life-changing events.
How and what do they treat?
Physiotherapists use a combination of manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, education, lifestyle advice, soft tissue techniques, joint manipulation to care for their clients. The physiotherapists at MelbourneWT are very hands on and do not rely on the use of machines in their treatments. We also believe that a consultation length needs to be long enough to provide a comprehensive and full treatment… so no in and out in 20mins here!
Treatment modalities include:
• exercise programs to improve mobility and strengthen muscles
• joint manipulation and mobilisation to reduce pain and stiffness
• muscle re-education
• airway clearance techniques and breathing exercises
• soft tissue massage
• dry needling
Common injuries/conditions treated include:
– ankle pain
– frozen shoulder
– joint stiffness
– back pain
– neural pain
How do You benefit?
Physiotherapy can help recover from injury, reduce pain and stiffness, and increase mobility. A physiotherapist can also help you prevent further injury by listening to your needs and working with you to plan the most appropriate treatment for your condition, including setting goals and treatment outcomes.
You do not require a referral to see a physiotherapist.
Physiotherapists can treat Work cover and TAC clients.
As with Myotherapy every session can be claimed on the spot through your private health fund.
