FAQ:

What is Myotherapy?

Myotherapy focuses on evidence based assessment and treatment of soft tissue injuries, muscle and joint dysfunction and pain. A myotherapist uses treatment techniques such as deep tissue massage, trigger point therapy, dry needling and cupping, plus an extensive evaluation to restore function of any affected muscles, joints and nerves.

How does a Myotherapist treat?

Myotherapists use various soft tissue manipulation techniques during treatment such as trigger point therapy, dry needling, deep tissue massage, hot and cold therapies, passive/ active muscle stretching and cupping.

The care does not end when you leave the room as corrective/rehabilitative exercises or postural re-education may be given so as you can continue your recovery at home.

What are common conditions a Myotherapist treats?

  • Neck tightness/restriction
  • Lower back pain
  • Headaches
  • Muscle tear
  • Tennis elbow
  • Rotator cuff injury (shoulder pain)
  • Joint stiffness
  • Posture related pain/injury
  • Stress and tension
  • Sciatica
  • scoliosis

How long is an appointment?

Generally appointments are 45mins, although depending on how many areas of the body require treating, 30mins and 60mins are also available.

What qualifications do Myotherapists have?

A practising myotherapist must hold one of the following qualifications:

  • BHSc (Clinical Myotherapy)
  • BHSc (Myotherapy)
  • Adv Dip (Myotherapy)

Courses take three years for either BHSc qualification for the AdvDip (Myotherapy). Once completed graduates of these qualifications are eligible to join Myotherapy Association Australia and to qualify for Myotherapy provider status with private health insurers.

Sarah and Bianca are both registered with their industry Myotherapy Association.

Do you bulk bill?
